What Pangur does
One piece of work, from the first reference to the finished draft, in the order the work happens.
A library that fills itself in
Import that finds the PDF
Type a title and pick the right match, or paste a DOI or an ISBN. Pangur saves the reference and then goes after the file: open access first, then your institutional access.
Bulk import
Paste a reading list or a bibliography and Pangur resolves it entry by entry, telling you which ones it could not place.
Your existing library
Import a Zotero library once with read-only access. Collections, tags, notes and files are copied into Pangur; Zotero is never changed.
Reading, from articles to manuscripts
A reader with a real text layer
Full text with a find box, and the extracted text on view so you can see the words a search or a citation is working from.
Manuscript facsimiles
Attach a IIIF facsimile to a shelfmark and read the leaves beside the reference, at the resolution the repository actually holds.
Transcription
A workspace for transcribing what you photographed in the archive, with line detection and an AI reading you can accept or correct.
Questions put to everything at once
Ask your library
An answer written from the full text of what you hold, with the passages it used quoted underneath. Every citation in it is a button that opens the page it came from.
Analyse a source
A letter book is read as its letters, a court book as its entries. Pangur draws out the people, places and dates each record names, with the words that show it.
Citations and connections
The works a stored PDF cites — the printed bibliography merged with the citation graph, each one already in your library, importable, or an archival source.
Writing beside the sources
Plan and draft
An outline that holds the works each section needs, and an editor that cites from the library you are looking at rather than from memory.
Bibliographies in any style
CSL under the hood: APA, Chicago, MLA and the rest, formatted from the same records the reader shows you.
Publish
Turn a piece of work into a public exhibition page — text, images and manuscript leaves — under your own handle.
Terminal, Mac, and assistants
Terminal and Mac
The zcp command covers the same ground for scripting. Pangur for Mac puts the workspace in a Mac window, with photographs brought in from Photos.
Assistants that cite what you have read
Claude and ChatGPT can search your library, open the full text of a PDF, and quote it with a page number. They can add to your library — never delete from it.
Yours to authorise
You authorise each library yourself, and you choose whether a connection sees the whole thing or a single collection. Credentials are encrypted at rest.
