Collect
Search your library, or bring in something new — type a title, paste a DOI, an ISBN or a file. Pangur saves the reference and goes after the PDF: open access first, then your institutional access.
Pangur is a workspace for the whole of research. It holds your sources and the work you do on them, from the first reading through to the writing that comes out the other end. Everything goes through one service, honours the same scope, and leaves the same activity trail.

Read
A PDF reader with a real text layer, the work’s citations picked out and linked, and manuscript facsimiles read beside the shelfmark that cites them.
Understand
Ask a question and the answer is written from the full text of your sources, with the passages quoted. Analyse a primary source into the people, places and dates it records. See how your works cite one another.
Write
Summaries, literature reviews, outlines and drafts, saved with version history and the works they drew on — written by you, or by an assistant that can only cite what you actually hold.
The library is the same wherever you work from. The table is what each client is allowed to do.
| Web | CLI | Assistants | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Search, read, cite, ask | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ |
| Import references and PDFs | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ |
| Create items, notes, collections, documents | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ |
| Edit metadata | ✅ | ✅ | — |
| Delete items or collections | ✅ | ✅ | never |
Assistants can add references and notes; they cannot delete. There is no delete tool for them to call, and the service turns down destructive operations from assistants even though the same code serves all three clients. If you want something gone, you remove it yourself.
