Projects
A project is a library of its own. Sources, the questions you put to them, the analysis, the research documents, the drafts and the exhibition drafts all belong to the project they were made in. Someone working on Scottish mystics and on political prophecy keeps two projects, and Ask answers from one body of sources at a time.
A new account has no project until you make one. The first time you sign in, Pangur asks whether to start with an empty project or to bring a Zotero library into one; either way you name it first. If all your work draws on one set of sources, one project is all you need.
Where a project lives
Section titled “Where a project lives”Each project has an address, and every workspace page sits under it:
pangur.io/p/scottish-mystics/librarypangur.io/p/scottish-mystics/askpangur.io/p/scottish-mystics/writeThe topbar shows the project you are in. Choose another from the same menu and the same
page opens there — the library, Ask, Analysis, Research, Plan, Write or Publish of the
other project. Older links without a project (/library?i=…, /d/…) still work: they
open in the project you used last.
On iPhone and iPad the same picker sits in the title bar of every tab, and Capture, Library and Ask move with it. The web workspace inside the app and the native tabs stay on one project: switch in either and the other follows. Pangur for Mac is the web workspace in a window, so its topbar is the picker there.
Making a project
Section titled “Making a project”Choose New project… from the project menu in the topbar, or open Projects from the account menu and press New project. Give it a name; the address comes from the name unless you set one. On iPhone and iPad the same two entries sit in the project menu of every tab.
Projects lists every project in the account: open one, rename it, or remove it. The project you opened last is marked Opened last. Changing the address changes every link into the project, so settle it early.
Project settings
Section titled “Project settings”Each project has its own settings page at /p/<address>/settings, reached from the
Projects page or the Go palette. It holds what belongs to that project alone: its name and
address, the collection it is scoped to, imports into it, and its removal. Account settings stay at Settings: institution
access, assistants and the command line. The plan, usage and support have pages of their own beside it.
What is per project, and what is per account
Section titled “What is per project, and what is per account”Per project:
- the library — references, files, collections, tags, notes
- Ask conversations, and what Ask reads to answer
- analysis corpora and the entities drawn from them
- research documents, plans and drafts
- exhibition drafts
Per account:
- your public page and handle: every exhibition you publish, from any project, appears at
pangur.io/your-handle/ - references shared with you, and what you have shared
- institution access, plan and support
- assistants and the command line, which work in your default project unless told
otherwise. The default is the project you opened last, on the web or on iPhone and
iPad, and Pangur opens there next time. To work in another, name it to your assistant,
or pass
zcp --connection <address>.
A project can also belong to an organisation and be shared with its members, each with a role. Ask conversations, documents and drafts stay each person’s own. See Shared projects.
Importing into a project
Section titled “Importing into a project”Imports always land in one project. Import from Zotero in a project’s settings copies a zotero.org library, or on Pangur for Mac the Zotero library on that Mac, into that project. On iPhone and iPad, Import from Zotero… in the Projects sheet does the same: zotero.org opens in a browser sheet for read-only approval, and the import runs with progress in the app. See Import a Zotero library.
Removing a project
Section titled “Removing a project”Remove, on the Projects page or in the project’s settings, deletes the project and its library: every reference, file, conversation, document and draft in it. Exhibitions already published stay published, and their drafts move to your default project. An organisation’s project keeps its exhibitions for the organisation: you choose another of its projects for them to move to. An account keeps at least one project, and a project cannot be removed while an import is running.
